TERMS OF USE (GAR PORTAL)

Thanks for using GAR Portal (“Services”). The Service is provided by Global Academic Forum. (“GAF”), located at 71-75, Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Global Academic Rating (GAR) is the rating portal for educational institutions by GAF.

By using our Services, you are agreeing to these terms. Please read them carefully.

Do not misuse our Services, for example, do not interfere with our Services or try to access them using a method other than the interface and the instructions that we provide. You may use our Services only as permitted by law, including applicable export and control laws and regulations. We may suspend or stop providing our Services to you if you do not comply with our terms or policies or if we are investigating suspected misconduct.

Using our Services does not give you ownership of any intellectual property rights in our Services or the content that you access. These terms do not grant you the right to use any branding or logos used in our Services. Do not remove, obscure or alter any legal notices displayed in or along with our Services.

Your GAR Portal Account

You may need a GAR Portal Account (“account”) in order to use all our Services. You may create your own account, or an account may be assigned to you by an administrator, such as your employer or educational institution.

Accounts, Passwords and Security

The Internet is not a secure medium. However, GAF will endeavor to protect all personal information collected through the GAF Portal in accordance with appropriate data protection standards.

The registration processes for the GAR may involve entering basic information and a password to access the account created. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password and account, and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under the account name and password. You agree to (a) immediately notify GAF of any unauthorised use of your password or account and any other breach of security, and (b) ensure that you log out from your account at the end of each session. GAF cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this obligation.

Registration

When you register for the GAR we ask you to provide certain personal information, including a valid email address, location and username. We may collect additional information such as physical address and additional authentication information, to provide you with the services you need (such as payment or making official contacts), or to ensure the marketplace integrity (for example, prevention of fraud). We collect information to provide better services and enhanced user experience to all of our participants.

In addition, we collect information while you access, browse, view or otherwise use the GAR Portal. In other words, when you access the GAR Portal we are aware of your usage of the Portal, and may gather, collect and record the information relating to such usage, including geo-location information, IP address, device and connection information, browser information and web-log information, and all the transactions recorded by Users through the Portal. We use that information to enhance user experience, personalize your browsing experience as well as monitor the Portal for fraud and inappropriate content or behavior.

Privacy and Copyright Protection

GAF Privacy Policy explains how we treat your personal data and protect your privacy when you use our Services. By using our Services, you agree that GAF can use such data in accordance with our Privacy Policies to perform the required services.

Your Content in Our Services

Our Services allow you to upload, submit, store, and process your contents. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content.

When you upload, submit, or store content to our Services, you give GAF a worldwide licence to use, host, store and process such content. The rights that you grant in this licence are for the limited purpose of performing required Services, and to develop new ones. This licence continues even if you stop using our Services. Make sure that you have the necessary rights to grant us this licence for any content that you submit to our Services.

About Software Services

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or lease any part of our Services or included software, nor may you reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of that software, unless laws prohibit those restrictions or you have our written permission.

Termination

You agree that GAF, in its sole discretion and without liability to you or any third party, may suspend or terminate, with or without notice, your access to the GAR Portal, if GAR believes that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of this Terms of Use. Where there is a breach of these Terms of Use, the rights described in this paragraph are not GAR’s only remedy and GAR may take any other action we reasonably deem appropriate in connection with such breach.

How do we collect Information?

You directly provide us with most of the information we collect. You do this by filling out the registration details on the GAF Website, and by entering additional information about your institution. This can include information about your staff, infrastructure and facilities etc. We also collect technical information indirectly and automatically through our systems. This information may include logging your Internet Protocol (IP) address, software configuration, operating system and use of cookies (cookies are small files sent from us to your computer and sometimes back). Cookies ultimately help us improve your navigation and ease of use of our Website and Portal. Cookies do not contain any personally identifiable information. How do we use the Information collected?

We use personal information only as appropriate to provide you with quality service and security. For example, we may use the information collected from you to verify your identity. We may also use this information to establish and set up your account, verify or re-issue a password, log your activity and contact you from time to time. In addition, this information helps us track any fraudulent activities and other inappropriate activities and monitor content integrity. We will ask for your consent before using information for a purpose other than those set out in this Privacy Policy. We process personal information on our servers in different jurisdictions world-wide. We may process your personal information on a server located outside the country in which you live.

We retain information as long as it is necessary and relevant for our operations. In addition, we may retain personal information from closed accounts to comply with the law, prevent fraud, collect any fees owed, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigation, enforce our Portal Terms of Use and take other actions permitted by law.

Sharing Personal Information with Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes without your explicit consent.

We may combine your personal information with information we collect automatically or obtain from other sources and use it to improve and personalize our services, content and advertising. If you do not wish to receive marketing communications from us, you can opt-out through the link attached to each communication or by sending an email to unsubscribe@globalacademicforum.org 

We may provide your personal details to third parties, only in order to operate the GAR Portal, and prevent fraud and illegal activities, as detailed below:

  • To service providers for the purpose of opening, operating and servicing your account (example – payment vendors, CRM systems, mailing systems or technical consultants);
  • To protect against fraud, unauthorized transactions (such as money laundering), claims or other liabilities. We do not collect credit information; but allow our payment vendors to collect information for the purpose of collecting payments from participants on the Website. We are not exposed to the payment information provided to our payment vendors, and this information is subject to the privacy policy applicable to the payment vendor.

Cookies and Local Storage

When you use the GAR Portal, we may use industry-wide technologies such as “cookies” (or similar technologies), which store certain information on your computer and which will allow us, among other things, to enable automatic sign-in to the Portal, make your browsing much more convenient and effortless and allow us to test user experience and offer you personalized browsing or promotions. Cookies (which may be html files, Flash files or other technology) are text files that help store user preferences and activity. The Portal uses cookies to collect statistical data about its use, to tailor the Portal’s functionality to suit personal preferences and to assist with various aspects of portal operation.

Blocking Cookies

You may set your browser to block all cookies, including cookies associated with our services, or to indicate when a cookie is being set by us. However, it’s important to remember that many of our services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled. For example, cookies may, in certain cases, save you from the need to enter usernames and passwords, and allow session continuity.

Security

We take great care in maintaining the security of the Portal and your information and in preventing unauthorized access to it through industry standard technologies and internal procedures. However, we do not guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur. Users who have registered to the Portal agree to keep their password in strict confidence and not disclose such password to any third party.

We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policies and the terms of use of service third party websites associated with our services. Our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy apply only to information collected by us in accordance with this policy.

Changes to the Terms and Conditions

We reserve the right to change the Terms of Use at any time, so please re-visit this page frequently. Changes to this Terms and Use are effective as of the stated “Last Update” and your continued use of the GAR Portal on or after the Last Update date will constitute acceptance of, and agreement to be bound by, those changes.

Corporate Change

In the event we go through a business transition such as a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be among the assets transferred.
